Half the Seer Designs

Description

OblivionJunkey94, I am so terribly sorry for being stupidly slow with working on this alien-design comission (I am busy with other things and I think I have given myself too hard work with this), but here is the first half of the Seers 4 Alternative Designs paper.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once again am I working on alternative designs, this time for OblivionJunkey94. He has requested me to do draw some design suggestions for two of his aliens, similar to how I drew Transapient´s Pogs and D´zumus. The first alien species to design are the Seers, a race of sophonts whose perception is so advanced that they can predict near-future events. Considering this superpower, making a plausible design for this species isn’t, easy so instead I am giving the designs a more “mystically outlandish” look contrary to the “strange-but-plausible” look.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

S.1 has (for me) the least alien form here with its remotely humanoid shape (stands upright, 2 legs, 2 arms and what could easily be mistaken for a head), but I thinks it ended up pretty cool anyway.

Its body is symmetrical in a way that there is an “up” and “down” but no “front” or “back”. At the top of the creature are two armoured “lips” that protects the Seers single flexible sensory stalk which features a ring of “ear-hair” and a big bug-like eye that can see in all direction (but down) at once. The creatures light green reptile-like skin is clad with big mirror-like scales and the Seer communicates through them by changing how they are reflecting the light.

The Seer has two crescent moon-shaped hearts, each one being directly behind the armpits, making a hard poke in the armpits a dangerous attack move.

Between the beings tripartite unguligrade-legs is there a pod-like mouth on a thick extendible neck. The outside of the mouth is equipped with big spongy, hygroscopic lips (they can drink just by dipping their lips) and on each lip is a fleshy knob that tastes anything touching it. The mouths inside consists of one row of teeth on the middle of each jaw, small bug-like claws on the lips inner edges and a big pair of six-fingered claws that folds out of the throat when the Seer is ready to swallow its food.

The creature is hermaphroditic and on each side of the body is there a yellow spongy “sperm-bladder” covered by a pair of bone-lids that only opens during mating. When looking for a mate, the Seers “romance” consists of testing each other intellectual skills and playing complicated game with complex rules that no non-Seer would be capable of comprehending. When ready to mate, the two partners decide which one should carry the “impregnator”- or “mother”-role, the impregnator-partner starts scratch away one of the mother-partners sperm-bladder to reveal a now exposed “vagina”. The impregnator then inserts a foam-like mass from his bladder into the will-be-mothers vaginal wound, after that the mating session is concluded. After their very first mating, each Seer will always keep one “sperm-bladder” and one “vagina” so they can both impregnate and have babies whenever they want. When pregnant, a grey spherical rubbery womb grows out of the vagina, connected to the mother by an orange, sticky umbilical cord with a taffy-like elasticity. As the baby is growing more developed and bigger inside its elastic womb, the umbilical cord stretch out more and more while the womb is lowering down closer to the ground. When the baby is ready to be born, the outworn umbilical cord falls off from the parent and the baby claws its way out of its womb. Only one child can be grown during pregnancy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

S.2 was easy to sketch down the basic concept of, but drawing the final version was truly a challenge considering that this Seer is a writhing pool of contorting rotten-looking flesh with fluid, veins, muscles and holes covering its body. Together with S.4, I find this one being the most alien of the bunch.

Resembling a lovecraftian flesh-amoeba, The Seer is capable of shaping its body to whatever situation it finds itself in. Despite its extremely mouldable body, it would be wrong to call this thing completely amorphous as some things still remains constant in its basic body shape: the mouth is always located in the middle of the creature while the other two thirds of its body forms two blobby “arms”. The being has two kinds of muscles; one set is hydraulic that push instead of pulling, the second set is conventional contractile muscles. The Seer with it mouldable body possess several forms of locomotion; it can push parts of itself forward, pulling itself forward like an earthworm/leech, glide like a slug, or slither like a snake.

How it is able to shape itself and make its body harder or softer is because its body is comprised of micro-unit, small organs that can connect/disconnect with each other and arrange themselves in different forms. There are different forms of micro-units like the bone units (which look like segmented bone “centipedes” with “fingers” that can bend both forward and backward, or balls of writhing, segmented “hooks”) and muscle units which looks like slithering worms. Despite this so isn’t the Seer the ultimate shapeshifter, it can’t form into something advanced like a bipedal humanoid and the best it can do is forming into what can either be described as a “bone filled, deformed octopus” or a “Chtulhu/leech/snake with fingers for ribs”.

Because of its mouldable morphology, very few of the Seers organs are centralized; the lungs are internal bubbles that constantly split off from/merge with each other as new respiratory-pores on the creatures skin appear and disappear, while the neural system is a complex decentralized network of amorphous brain-units which in turn branch into even smaller “mini-lobes”. This distribution of reshapable organs is so efficient that any detached piece of the Seer that is bigger than a human fist is capable of surviving on its own.

The Seer have no more but three eyes, one for each third of its body, which are mobile and can change their position on the Seers body. When the being wants 360 degree vision, the eyes can place themselves against each other and form an eyestalk.

Communication between Seer individuals is a combination of pseudopodia-formations, colour-shifting, and farting/belching noises.

When the Seers are ready for reproduction, all partaking individuals breaks apart into swarms. Their bodies’ aren’t giving birth to the swarms, no, each individual literally metamorphose into several separate creatures. The beings that comprise the swarm are small manta ray/slug-like “larvae” whose body symmetry has a “front” and “back” but no “up” and “down”. They fly with two wings that can take in air and air-jet for an anus, but the larvae have also one powerful “foot” on each side of their body that hurls them into the air in case they have landed on the ground and wants to fly again. In order to see which ones are the strongest and weakest, theirs swarms try to fight and assimilate each others larva. When a larva is fighting and assimilating another larva, it extends small hooked threads to kill the other larva, and while the winning larva grows bigger as it is absorbing the defeated larva, it also converts the losers DNA into its own “superior” DNA in order to ensure the next generation of Seers will be stronger evolutionarily. Once only two or three very big larvae remains after the swarm-battle, each one of them look for a “surrogate-parent” to adopt them and then restructure their own bodies into an “adult” Seer-blob.

I swear your alien designs are some of the best I have ever seen, keep up the good work.
